Apple Unveil Cable-Free HBO Now, Free to Subscribers in April

Apple has unveiled a cable-free partnership with HBO in the form of streaming service HBO Now, which will be available exclusively to owners of Apple products.

The new service will be available for free for one month if you subscribe in April, meaning that you’ll have it in time for the season 5 premiere of Game of Thrones. Apple announced that the service would be coming to Apple TV, iPhones, and iPads, though the company didn’t confirm whether it would also be coming to its Mac series.

The announcement also came with a price drop for Apple TV, which has now been bumped down to $69. HBO used the opportunity to also unveil an exclusive trailer for the next Game of Thrones season to those in attendance.

HBO Now (which actually hasn't been released yet, making it not very "Now" at all, really) won't require a cable subscription, meaning that even those who have not subscribed to HBO will be able to sign up for $14.99 per month. HBO CEO Richard Plepler called it a "transformative moment" for the company.
