Hulu Plans Myst Original Series

Last month, Hulu signed rich contracts to land the streaming rights to Seinfeld and several upcoming AMC programs. Additionally, Hulu’s push into original programming is becoming more aggressive.

Deadline is reporting that Hulu has won a bidding war for the rights to develop an original live action series based on the video game Myst. Legendary Television is producing the project with  Matt Tolmach (The Amazing Spider-Man) and Evan Daugherty (Divergent). If Daugherty’s pilot script is approved by Hulu, Myst will go straight-to-series.

Myst debuted as a computer game in 1993 that took place in a first person perspective as the player explored the interactive environments of the otherworldly island of Myst. The proposed Myst live action series will fix sci-fi and fantasy and delve into the origins of the island as the main character wakes up Myst without any memory of who or where he is.

Hulu’s upcoming production slate includes the adaptation of Stephen King’s 11/22/63 with James Franco in the leading role, in addition to Difficult People from Amy Poehler, Julie Klausner and Billy Eichner; Casual from Jason Reitman and The Way by Jason Katims.
