“True Detective” may have been defeated in the Emmy race, but HBO is already plotting its comeback.
Deadline is reporting that Justin Lin is in negotiations to direct the first two episodes of “True Detective” Season 2. Lin would be succeeding Cary Fukunaga, the director who helmed the entire first season of “True Detective.” Fukunaga also won an Emmy for his work on the series last month. The report suggests that Fukunaga’s departure stems from his upcoming feature film commitments and creative differences between himself and “True Detective” creator Nic Pizzolatto.
While Lin has directed “Community” and the pilot of “Scorpion” for television, he is best known for helming four of the Fast & Furious films and he is slated to direct the next Bourne movie.

The premise for the second season is said to revolve around the murder of a corrupt city manager in the middle of “a potentially groundbreaking transportation deal.”
“True Detective” Season 2 will also be filmed in California, but a start date for production has yet to be revealed.
