Shortly before E3, word broke that Microsoft and Showtime were in talks to possibly co-produce the upcoming “Halo” TV series based upon the best selling series of Xbox games. But in the wake of this week’s stunning layoffs at Microsoft, Xbox Entertainment Studios was shut down and the future of the project was uncertain.
During the Showtime presentation at the Television Critics Association Press Tour, Showtime President David Nevins confirmed earlier reports that the “Halo” series was not only alive, it may still find its way to Showtime.
“My understanding is that [Microsoft] are not going to build a new streaming service, but Halo is their biggest property, and there is enormous will to find a way to bring it to a new media,” explained Nevins. “Those conversations are ongoing.”

Deadline reports that a final decision about whether Showtime will pick up “Halo” will come at the end of the year, with the series to premiere on Showtime next year if it goes through. The “Halo” TV series is being executive produced by Steven Spielberg and his company, Amblin Television.
The premiere of the “Halo” TV series will likely be timed with the launch of Halo 5: Guardians next year.
