The third season of “Sherlock” ended with the abrupt end of Sherlock Holmes’ (Benedict Cumberbatch) exile when a threat from his past apparently returned.
Normally, the wait between seasons of “Sherlock” is about 18 months to two years. However, there is some hope that the wait won’t be quite as long this time.
During his appearance on this week’s episode of “Chatty Man” (via Cult Box) Martin Freeman told host Alan Carr that “Mark Gatiss may beat me up, but there is an idea for this one-off special that’s such a good idea, and as I was listening to it I thought ‘we’ve just got to do this’. And I don’t know when we are going to be able to do it, unfortunately.”
Freeman also said that “It’s a fantastic, really mouth-watering idea. But I really don’t know when we are going to get to do it.”
While Freeman is eager to reprise his role as John Watson opposite Cumberbatch, the biggest hurdle for “Sherlock” Season 4 is still time. Both Freeman and Cumberbatch remain in high demand for movie and TV roles, while “Sherlock” showrunners Mark Gatiss and Steven Moffat are also quite busy.
However, “Sherlock” Season 4 will eventually happen. In the meantime, Freeman is starring in the “Fargo” miniseries on FX.
