Benedict Wong debuted in the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) as Wong in the 2016 feature Doctor Strange and has since become a prominent part of the franchise, appearing in several other projects over the years. According to industry scoopers, Wong will serve as the lead protagonist in the rumored Strange Academy TV series. Further, Benedict Cumberbatch might also reportedly appear in the series, though his involvement could apparently be quite limited.
Benedict Cumberbatch’s Doctor Strange rumored for Wong’s Strange Academy Series
Industry scooper @MyTimeToShineH claimed in one of their recent posts that Benedict Wong would return as Wong in Strange Academy, a project that is yet to be officially announced by Marvel and Disney. The scooper also claimed Benedict Cumberbatch might make a cameo appearance in the project.
“Benedict Wong is confirmed to star in Strange Academy. If Benedict Cumberbatch will be in it, it will be a small role. Right now he’s not confirmed to return,” @MyTimeToShineH shared with their subscribers.
Rumors about a Strange Academy solidified in late 2024. Notably, in Marvel Comics, Strange Academy refers to a school that Doctor Strange sets up where young magically gifted individuals can hone their talents. Created by writer Skottie Young and artist Humberto Ramos, the school made its first appearance in a 2020 publication and has since become an important part of the magical corner of Marvel Comics.
If these rumors are true, it will be Marco Polo actor’s first MCU project as the lead after serving as a supporting or guest character in an extensive list of projects in the franchise. In 2021, Wong revealed to Marvel.com at the Spider-Man: No Way Home premiere’s red carpet that MCU boss Kevin Feige sent him an e-mail in which he referred to the MCU as the Wong Cinematic Universe, or WCU.
