Florida State Heisman Trophy winning quarterback ‘Famous’ Jameis Winston was issued a citation by local police Tuesday after being caught shoplifting crab legs from a Publix supermarket, according to SB Nation.
Because of the incident, Winston has been suspended from the baseball team. He was 1-0 with a 1.50 ERA in 16 appearances so far this spring and was a pre-season All-American.
“He got an adult civil citation,” a source told the website. “If he completes the sanctions it will never show up on his record.
“They commonly give them to juveniles on first criminal offenses. They are now doing it for minor misdemeanors for adults to lower crime rate.”…
…”As a result of his citation last night, we are suspending Jameis Winston from the baseball team,” coach Mike Martin said. “I am confident he will complete his community service obligation and the situation will be resolved soon.”
Winston will reportedly also be fined $30 and required to do community service.
It was just back in December the Florida state attorney chose not to charge Winston on felony charges after he was accused of sexual assault surrounding an incident in December, 2012. The U.S. Department of Education’s Office of Civil Rights has since opened a separate investigation revolving FSU’s handling of the Winston case and the possible Title IX violations incurred.
Winston has also been tied to other previous incidents, including destruction of property — 13 broken windows at an apartment building near the school’s football stadium — and an incident last July at a Burger King where the QB was questioned for stealing soda.
Of course, in the south they just call it ‘coke.’
You stay classy in Tallahassee.
