Literally, generations have come and gone without seeing a championship Cubs team; they’re called the lovable losers for a reason. Consider the latest Cubs collapse a big, fat welcoming party for our very first ‘Fan of the Week.’
Wednesday was Wrigley Fields’ 100th anniversary. How did the Cubs celebrate? By blowing a 9th inning 5-2 lead to the Diamondbacks, currently the worst team in baseball (7-18). Our young, Cubs fan didn’t take the downfall very well.
Notice how the older Cubs fan to the left doesn’t seem the least bit surprised while the boys’ mother just laughs. The little boy in front just looks bewildered.
Yup, our little guy has a lot to learn.
Maybe the collapse was karma for not inviting Sammy Sosa to the party?
Or maybe it was karma from tossing their 400 pound anniversary cake in the dumpster?
Either way, we want to extend some love out to our young, hoodie-fleece wearing Cubs fan. May your allegiance, devotion and passion outweigh the bitterness and turmoil that comes from Cubs fandom throughout the years of long-suffering futility.
