NBA Playoffs 2014: Why San Antonio Won’t Win The NBA Finals

The Spurs were a dynasty starting in 1999 and managed to rack up four championships in an eight year period. However, they have not been able to recapture the glory days of yesterday. In fact, they have only won the Western conference one time since 2007 and have garnered some embarrassing elimination losses in that six year process.

Don’t worry about shopping for any NBA championship shirts, Spurs fans. Here is …

Why the Spurs won’t win the 2014 NBA Finals

The Spurs have already proved in the past that they can lose to anyone. Just three years ago, despite being a No. 1 seed, the Spurs were ousted by the No. 8  seed Grizzlies. It was only the second-time a No. 8 seed defeated a No. 1 seed in a seven-game series. So the Spurs cannot overlook even the worst team in the playoffs.

The Spurs can’t coast to the NBA Finals like the Heat will. They have to go through the conference from hell. If the Spurs were in the WWE, their road to the championship belt at Wrestlemania would be a handi-cap match against The Rock, Stone Cold, John Cena, and a young Hulk Hogan while the Heat wrestle a midget with a lazy eye.

The Rockets, alone, swept the Spurs 4-0 throughout the season; that has to cause concern considering if they meet in the second round — and then in the conference finals — a guy named Kevin Durant awaits.

The Spurs’ only remaining players from their past championship teams are 37 (Tim Duncan), 36 (Manu Ginobilli), and 31 (Tony Parker) years old. The Spurs are doing their best for one more title at the end of their careers. Basically, right now they are the old guy at the YMCA with two knee braces, who can shoot the lights out, and is still schooling the young bucks while talking about how awesome they have always been. But what eventually happens to that old guy? He begs you to just play half-court, always breaks down, and has to go home to eat pudding to be in bed by 7 o’clock.

The Spurs are that guy.

The Spurs don’t know how to win a title any longer. Just to put things into perspective, the Spurs have not won a title since The Sopranos was wrapping up their series finale. That’s right. They haven’t won since 2007. You know what else happened all the way back in 2007? The first I-phone. Yeah, that old bag of bones. You know what else? Britney Spears was bad and looking like Nosferatu while chasing paparazzi around with umbrellas. And we still knew who Kevin Federline was.

So because of all of that, the Spurs cannot win. It’s science.

Ginobili has been losing the battle against his hairline for years. How is he supposed to help the Spurs win a title when he can’t beat his own scalp?

That’s what Kawhi Leonard shoots from the line. Its actually a 2% drop from last year and the problem is, he doesn’t shoot 100% from the line. Everyone remembers the choke-job last year in Game 6 of the NBA finals, where Leonard missed a game-ending free throw that allowed Ray Allen to hit a last second three to send the game in overtime. The Spurs haven’t forgotten that choke and if the same scenario happens again, Leonard wants no part of those free throws.

Why we’re wrong

The Spurs finished three games ahead of the second best team in the league. During the regular season, the Spurs were first in assists per game, sixth in points scored, sixth in points allowed, first in three-point shooting, first in field goals made, and second in field goal percentage.
