Last month, Dish Network’s internet service Sling TV took the CES by storm thanks to its initial lineup of digital channels that could potentially eat away at traditional cable and satellite TV subscribers. Now, sports fans may have an added incentive to cut the cord in favor of Sling TV.
Via Gigaom, Sling TV has posted the details of its Sports Extra package. For $5 a month (on top of the standard $20 subscription Sling TV fee) viewers wil be able to watch ESPNU, ESPNEWS, ESPN Buzzer Beater, ESPN Goal Line, ESPN Bases Loaded, the SEC Network, Univision Deportes, Universal Sports and beIN Sports.
The inclusion of the ESPN networks isn’t shocking, since ESPN and ESPN2 were part of the initial lineup of Sling TV channels alongside fellow Disney owned networks Disney Channel and ABC Family. But as Gigaom noted, Universal Sports is a surprise as NBC hadn’t previously committed any channels to Sling TV. The report speculates that this could mean that more NBC Universal owned channels could potentially be added to Sling TV’s offerings.

Food Network, HGTV, Travel Channel, TNT, CNN, TBS, Cartoon Network and Adult Swim are also a part of Sling TV’s standard lineup of channels for $20. Additional channels beyond the sports package will also be available.
Sling TV is currently in an invite only beta stage, but it is expected to be widely available within the next few weeks.
