Taylor Swift is reportedly standing by Ed Sheeran as he deals with the fallout from the controversy surrounding his tour. Sources claim the two have spoken privately, with Swift allegedly offering her support while choosing not to address the matter publicly. The decision comes as Sheeran faces increased scrutiny following changes to his tour lineup.
Sources say Taylor Swift privately supports Ed Sheeran while avoiding public involvement
According to sources cited by Naughty But Nice, Swift has checked in on Sheeran and offered her support. However, she reportedly does not intend to publicly comment on the situation.
A music insider told the outlet that Swift has spoken with Sheeran about the situation and remains supportive of him. However, she reportedly believes the controversy is something Sheeran needs to address himself. “Taylor has spoken to Ed and has been supportive privately. But she understands this is Ed’s situation to navigate. Don’t expect an Instagram statement or some big public show of support,” the insider said.
The controversy began after Macklemore was removed from Sheeran’s tour following comments that he made about Palestine during a performance. Several other opening acts later withdrew from the tour, increasing the attention on Sheeran and the decision to remove Macklemore from the lineup. Sheeran addressed the controversy during his Philadelphia concert.
While the “Shape of You” singer has spoken publicly, Swift has reportedly decided against doing the same. A source said, “Taylor has learned that when you’re as famous as she is, simply standing beside someone can become the headline. She cares about Ed, but publicly jumping into this would only make the story bigger.”
Another insider said Swift’s support for Sheeran does not require her to address the controversy publicly. “Ed has to navigate this himself. Taylor can support her friend privately without becoming his spokesperson,” the insider said.
For now, Swift is reportedly limiting her involvement to private conversations with Sheeran.
