What began as a dispute surrounding Ed Sheeran’s tour has now shifted toward humanitarian relief. Robert Kraft says Sheeran plans to put up $2 million for aid in Gaza. Meanwhile, Kraft will contribute the same amount, bringing their announced commitment to $4 million.
Ed Sheeran and Robert Kraft pledge to donate $4 million amid drama
The donation dispute gained momentum after Macklemore pledged $1 million from his net earnings as Ed Sheeran’s Loop Tour support act to groups assisting Palestinians. He also called on Robert Kraft to put up an equal amount (via Variety).
Kraft later addressed the matter through the Gillette Stadium X account, explaining that Sheeran had already reached out to him. According to Kraft, the singer proposed a $2 million commitment “to aid in the region” and support efforts addressing the humanitarian crisis. Kraft said he agreed to match Sheeran’s planned gift. “Ed now plans to reach out to other venue owners, and our goal is to continue to work together to build bridges,” Kraft said.
Where the money will ultimately land has yet to be revealed. It is also reported that neither Kraft’s nor Sheeran’s representatives had immediately identified the organizations set to receive the funds. Kraft also said Sheeran plans to contact other venue owners, with both men looking to keep the humanitarian effort moving.
Kraft tied the pledge to his broader push for unity. He said he has spent much of his life “building bridges between all people” and believes “all lives are worth protecting.” He also highlighted past programs aimed at expanding opportunities for Palestinians and connecting young Palestinian and Israeli people to build businesses, jobs and lasting relationships.
The charity push comes amid fallout between Macklemore and the Sheeran tour. Earlier this week, Macklemore was dropped from the tour after saying “free Palestine” during a political speech at New Jersey’s MetLife Stadium in September. He later accused Kraft of urging other stadium owners to shut him out of their venues.
