There have been multiple teaser clips released in the lead-up to the premiere of HBOâs critically acclaimed Kurt Cobain documentary Montage of Heck. But the latest batch of archival footage shows the late cultural icon as weâve never seen him before: sporting a wedding dress, lipstick and a Hitler moustache.
In the bizarre home movie, the Nirvana frontmanâs then-wife Courtney Love reads a hate letter from a Cobain super-fan known only as ââKurt slaveâ trashing his âhagâ of a lady love, while Cobain himself mimes along, dolled-up in his outlandish get-up.
Review: Montage of Heck will drain you
The clip is one of many to be plucked from Cobainâs personal archives for the upcoming film, along with rarely seen artwork, photography, journal extracts and, of course, music. Director Brett Morgan was given free reign from Cobainâs family, including daughter Frances Bean, who acted as the filmâs producer.Â
Read our in-depth interview with the filmâs director, Brett Morgen, in which he explains the struggle that Cobain would eventually lose himself to. âYou see that he wants to be a doting father but heâs losing his battle to his addiction,â Morgen reflects.
Montage Of Heck is in US cinemas now, and will premiere in Australia with a limited theatrical release on May 7th.
