Soundwave Festival 2015 has lost two international acts in as many days, with Florida melodic hardcore act Evergreen Terrace pulling out due to serious injuries suffered by their drummer, and Californian rockers Rival Sons cancelling their Soundwave tour following the birth of a child.
The news of Evergreen Terrace drummer Brad Moxey was first confirmed by Soundwave promoter AJ Maddah, who tweeted, “Evergreen Terrace’s drummer has fallen of a ladder and sustained serious injuries. They have cancelled all shows incl #SW15.” As of yet, no replacement has been announced.
A GoFundMe page has been created by Moxey’s wife, to help raise funds for his recovery. On the page, Moxey’s wife writes, “Brad fell 25 ft off a ladder onto a brick sidewalk while working on a house. He was knocked unconscious for over 20 minutes and unaware of where he was once his eyes opened.”
“His elbow was shattered into so many pieces they weren’t sure the extent of his injury.”
Moxey has now been released from hospital after a four hour surgery and four days recovery, but he will be unable to play the drums for months.
Rival Sons, on the other hand, released a statement this morning, outlining their reasoning for cancelling their Soundwave dates.
“Attention to our highly esteemed and very patient Australian fanbase: It brings us no pleasure to announce that we are not able to play the Soundwave festival this year,” the statement reads.
“We’ve been waiting years to see you, YEARS and this was going to be such a great line up. We had every intention of coming to you and take full responsibility for any disappointment. The good news? A child has been born to the Rival Sons family. Even though we collectively thought it to be sufferable, we’ve found that taking our brother away from his wife and newborn so soon ultimately defies our personal ethics as a band.
“We can assure you that it is our utmost desire to get Down Under to give you what you have so patiently waited for. We wholeheartedly beg your understanding and forgiveness on this matter.”
The two cancellations have taken place in the same week that Maddah said this was the first Soundwave festival where no bands have cancelled, so let’s just hope there’s no more still to come.
Soundwave 2015 kicks off in Melbourne and Adelaide on Saturday, 21st February.
