Butch Vig: New Foo Fighters Album “Officially Done”

Foo Fighters have officially completed recording their eighth studio album according to producer Butch Vig.

Vig took to Twitter to break the news after the band spent the past few months travelling across the US recording in a number of cities.

“We are officially done with the new Foo Fighters album. 23 straight days mixing! IT’S EPIC!!!,” Vig tweeted.

A HBO mini-series documenting the recording process, Sonic Highways, will accompany the release of the new album as frontman Dave Grohl gets on his directing hat for a second feature after last year’s hugely successful Sound City.

Having last dropped new material in 2011 with Wasting Light, Foo Fighters have “reinvented” their recording process, seeking out unique locations across the US.

“We could just go make another record in the studio, hit the road and sell a bunch of T-shirts. It’s all about reinventing the process,” Grohl told Billboard earlier this month.

“These recording studios are hallowed ground; they’re churches and monuments to me. History has been made in (trips) all over the country.”

A Foo Fighters Australian tour is also expected at some point after the band called for Aussie followers to follow their official fan page in May, “cause you never know where/when the Foo’s may show up.”

An official album date has yet to be announced.
