Kanye West has been called a lot of things, but the one adjective practically everyone would agree could be used to to describe the eccentric rap artist would be “fascinating”. The special hour-long interview he held with BBC Radio 1’s Zane Lowe certainly proves that.
In the interview, broadcast on the station yesterday, we finally got to hear more from the man behind the music, rather than the man behind the reality TV star girlfriend that tabloid newspapers are so obsessed with. It was refreshing to hear Kanye talk about his skills as a music producer rather than being questioned about his personal life (though Lowe did bring up his relationship with Kim Kardashian, to which he responded “She can love me without asking for money, which is hard to find for me”) and to get his two cents on the current state of the music industry.
A personal favourite quote from the interview would be the Yeezus rappers response to Lady Gaga’s recent appointment as Creative Director of Polaroid: “I like Lady Gaga’s songs, but what the f*** does she know about cameras?”
