Hunters & Collectors and Birds of Tokyo will provide the pre-game and halftime entertainment at the 2013 AFL Grand Final on September 29.
The AFL has elected to showcase more home grown talent on the biggest day on the Australian sporting calendar after the debacle that was Meat Loaf in 2011, bringing in two more huge Aussie acts to follow on from The Temper Trap and Paul Kelly’s stellar performance last year.
Making just their third appearance since reuniting for the Sound Relief concert in 2009 and at the 2011 V8 Supercars, rock legends Hunters & Collectors look to be making a fully-fledged comeback after retiring from a 17-year career in 1998 and were recently announced as the supporting act for Bruce Springsteen’s February 2014 tour.
Frontman Mark Seymour said the seven-piece is thrilled to be playing “biggest day of our national calendar”.
“We’ll be playing the AFL Grand Final in front of the biggest sporting crowd you could ever play to. It’s a great privilege and an honour,” Seymour said.
Birds of Tokyo represent another great catch by the AFL in the contemporary artists column- their single ‘Lanterns’ was recently named the most played song on Australian radio over the first half of the year after March Fires soared to number one on the Australian charts after its release in March.
Both acts will also perform at the Premiership Party; a free event which drew 11,000 fans to see Kelly and The Temper Trap last year.
