Hard Summer has unveiled its 2016 lineup, after a weeklong tease via a retro website and an 800 number to stoke the fires of anticipation. This year’s lineup will include Ice Cube and Major Lazer headlining the two-day music festival, with additional artists including Dillon Francis, DJ Khaled, Anderson Paak, Flosstradamus, Travis Scott, Claude VonStroke and more also booked for the July 30-31 event.
Jettisoning from the Pomona Fairplex, Hard Summer 2016 will now take place at the Auto Club Speedway in Fontana, a necessary shift following a firestorm of controversy and upheaval after two teenage girls died of drug overdoses after attending Hard Summer last year.
In response to the tragedy of 2015, L.A. County Supervisor Hilda Solis imposed severe restrictions on Hard’s following events at the Fairplex, including its annual Halloween-themed festival, Day of the Dead. The festival’s age limit was raised from 18 to 21, the scale of the production was pulled back considerably, and the fest was made to end earlier than in previous years. This resulted in gutted attendance numbers and an existential dilemma for the EDM fest.
The move to Fontana will allow the age minimum to once again return to 18, while the new venue will expand Hard’s production to over 500 acres and allow on-site camping for attendees, a first for Hard Summer.
