What year is this? Whether or not you watched the Democratic National Debate on Tuesday night, there’s little argument in 2015 that a woman is every bit as capable as a man to hold public office – and that includes the role of Commander in Chief. But rapper T.I. doesn’t believe candidate and current Democratic frontrunner Hillary Clinton is qualified to be President – not because of the email scandal she’s embroiled in, her ties to big banks or her heavy-handed military policy overseas, but because she’s a woman.
In an interview with DJ Whoo Kid, the painfully ignorant Atlanta musician discussed Clinton and said there was no way he could vote for a woman to be president.
“Not to be sexist but, I can’t vote for the leader of the free world to be a woman,” he said. “Just because, every other position that exists, I think a woman could do well. But, the president? It’s kinda like, I just know that women make rash decisions emotionally – they make very permanent, cemented decisions – and then later, it’s kind of like it didn’t happen, or they didn’t mean for it to happen. And I sure would hate to just set off a nuke.”
He went on, saying that other leaders “will not be able to negotiate the right kinds of foreign policy; the world ain’t ready yet. I think you might be able to get the Loch Ness Monster elected before. It’s not right, but I’m just saying…”
Let that sink in for a moment. We’ve all undoubtedly heard off-color jokes about a woman president blowing up the world in an emotionally compromised state – but those offensive tropes are indicators of low-minded male-chauvinist douchebags, not a general reality. Yet T.I. chose to make these comments in front of a microphone, before giving a half-hearted endorsement to bloviating orangutan windbag Donald Trump, the Kanye West of old white assholes.
He does, however, think Trump could be “beneficial” to America if he is “sincerely concerned about the economy.” But T.I. said he didn’t support Trump either because of his racist statements. “You know, his racist remarks and all of his off-color statements and all that shit it makes it impossible to be completely supportive of him. But just knowing what he’s done for business for himself, if he intends to do that for America, it would be beneficial. But I can’t cast no vote for him.”
Should we be relieved?
