Sam Smith’s ‘SPECTRE’ Theme ‘Writing’s on the Wall’ Hasn’t Got Many Fans

Sam Smith’s theme for the upcoming James Bond movie Spectre has finally been unveiled, and the reception to the song has been mediocre to say the least.

The track, titled ‘Writing’s on the Wall’, is the typical orchestral fare you’d expect from a Bond theme, which is precisely why people aren’t very big fans of it. Plodding along without even threatening to erupt into the sort of sweeping crescendo we’ve heard in the vast majority of Bond themes, the tepid response to the track led to Shirley Bassey becoming a trending topic in the UK, with Twitter users discussing the Bond themes they preferred to Smith’s own.

Though many may have been left underwhelmed by the song, at least it is unlikely to force its way into our subconsciousness in the way that Adele’s ‘Skyfall’ did, and maybe the lukewarm response to it will ensure that we won’t be forced to endure it being incessantly played on every radio station prior to Spectre‘s release on October 25th.

Taking to Twitter after the song was released, Smith tweeted: “I have been dreaming of this moment for a long long time.”

He added: “Thank you for all your amazing messages. Today is such a special day for me and I am so grateful to everyone supporting this track.”
