50 Cent filed for chapter 11 bankruptcy protection Monday, just days after a jury directed the rapper to pay $5 million to a woman who sued over a sex tape, the Associated Press reported.
The WSJ reports that Fiddy (real name Curtis James Jackson III), who pimps whatever product he’s paid to, filed in the U.S. Bankruptcy Court in Hartford, Conn. with reported assets and debts each in the range of $10 million to $50 million. A jury awarded Lavonia Leviston the $5 million after determining the rapper intentionally leaked a sex tape in which she was featured, with the intention to embarrass Rick Ross (but Ross has plenty of his own problems to deal with, having been arrested on kidnapping and assault charges).
The irony is pretty thick, however, when one considers the fact that few musicians have trumpeted wealth as flagrantly and gaudily as 50. He’s constantly seen flashing expensive jewelry, vehicles and more, while his Instagram account has been brimming with cash-and-gold braggadocio for years:
…and it’s not a missed detail that he broke through with an album titled Get Rich or Die Tryin’.
Good luck, 50!
