Rumor: Marvel’s X-Men Reboot Looking to Cast Gambit & Kitty Pryde

Channing Tatum finally got the chance to portray Gambit on the big screen in the 2024 superhero blockbuster Deadpool & Wolverine after spending years trying to do so. Tatum’s outing as the New Orleans-born superhero received widespread positive responses from the audience, and the White House Down actor expressed interest in working on a solo Gambit movie. However, if industry insiders are to be believed, he might not get the chance to do so.

Gambit and Kitty Pryde rumored to be on Marvel’s X-Men Reboot team

Industry insider Daniel Richtman or Daniel RPK claimed that Gambit and Kitty Pryde would appear in the reboot. “According to a recent casting grid Kitty [Pryde] and Gambit will be on the team for the reboot,” Daniel RPK shared. Given that this is supposed to be a casting grid, it probably means that Marvel is looking for new cast members for these roles. As reported earlier, speculations are going around that Stranger Things actress Sadie Sink is in consideration to be cast as MCU’s Jean Grey. If that is indeed the case, it can be theorized that Marvel wants to cast a young group of actors in the X-Men reboot, and that can potentially apply to Gambit and Kitty Pryde as well.

Alternatively, Tatum can still return as Gambit in future X-Men projects set within the MCU. Deadpool & Wolverine was a massive critical and commercial success and introduced its two main characters in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. A scrapped post-credits scene from the movie teases Gambit leaving the Void. However, as it wasn’t part of the theatrical release, it doesn’t denote anything about Tatum’s future in the MCU.

Ryan Reynolds, the star of the movie, revealed in November 2024 that Marvel Studios was “obsessed” with Tatum’s rendition of the character. Further, Tatum disclosed in an interview with Variety that he had spoken to Marvel about reprising the role. “Of course I’ve said it. I’ve been saying I want it for the last 10 years. It’s in Bob Iger and Kevin Feige’s hands. I pray to God,” he said.
