DCU’s Superman Trailer Gets Exciting Update From James Gunn

James Gunn, director of the upcoming DCU Superman movie, has shared an update on the status of the film’s trailer, sparking speculation about its release window. Gunn’s remarks provide a timeline context for fans as the DCU prepares for its next phase.

James Gunn confirms Superman trailer is ready

Director James Gunn recently provided an update on the status of the Superman movie trailer. When asked by a fan on Threads, “When is the Superman trailer coming out? Because I am seeing Captain America Brave New World trailer, Thunderbolts trailer, Peacemaker Season 2 first look and now Mission Impossible Final Reckoning trailer and I’m like where is the Superman trailer at?” Gunn responded, “It’s on my hard drive. But, seriously, all three of those projects come out months before us.”

This statement from Gunn indicates that the Superman trailer is complete and stored on his device. Gunn also noted that the other film projects have earlier release dates than Superman. This suggests a staggered schedule for DC’s marketing releases. It aligns with the usual practice for major films, where trailers are timed as part of the overall campaign. Studios typically release them closer to the movie’s release date for maximum impact.

2024’s Superman movie trailer could be released at Brazil CCXP

Speculation suggests that the trailer may premiere at CCXP in São Paulo, Brazil, an event running from December 5-8, 2024. Warner Bros. Discovery has previously unveiled significant trailers at CCXP, including those for Wonder Woman 1984 and The Flash. Another possibility is a December 25 release during scheduled NBA games, specifically either the Lakers vs. Warriors or Nuggets vs. Suns matchups.

The film, directed by Gunn, stars David Corenswet as Superman/Clark Kent and Rachel Brosnahan as Lois Lane and is set to be released on July 11, 2025. Creature Commandos premieres on Max on December 5, and DC’s marketing focus will initially be on this series. After its premiere, attention is expected to shift to the Superman campaign. The first footage of David Corenswet as Superman may be released soon afterward.
