Almost 2000 years later and this dude still can’t catch a break.
Way back in 79 A.D., Mount Vesuvias erupted near the Roman City of Pompeii and left thousands of people buried in ash. And believe it or not, tons of people were preserved and their remains are still in tact till this day. And while many victims have been uncovered since then, there is one preserved victim that has the internet buzzing.
Take a look at the photo below thanks to Instagram and try to figure out why it has gone viral.
Yep, you know exactly what that looks like. Some people believe that this dude was going to town on himself when the volcano blew up and ended his good time.
And as expected, Twitter had a hell of a time with it:
I like to think he wasn’t jacking it, he just saw what was coming and had a split second to think “not my junk!”

He died holding his loved ones.

This man saw his entire world crumbling to fire and ash and decided to crank one out before facing eternity. Legend. https://t.co/KSBhPXfVOB

Now sorry to put a damper on things, but according to “volcanologist” Pier Paolo Petrone this dude wasn’t pleasuring himself:
“There is no way to demonstrate any ‘masturbating man,’ and it is out of place to discuss such an affirmation,” Dr. Petrone said over e-mail. “The individual in the photo is an adult man, killed by the hot pyroclastic surge (hot gas and ash cloud which killed most of the population living around Mount Vesuvius), with both arms and legs flexed due to the heat.”
Well damn. Well rest in peace, buddy. Here’s hoping this dude is doing a hell of a lot better now.
