Karla Alvarez is a 28-year-old who taught Spanish and coached girl’s soccer at Chestatee Middle School Academy in Gainseville, Florida since August of 2015. She was also recently the center of a drug bust that would rival a scene out of Breaking Bad.

Alvarez, along with 24-year-old Monica Brito, were recently arrested and charged with trafficking and possessing with the intent to distribute cocaine and heroin. And oh yeah, there were also guns, and anabolic steroids — all of it found when police raided their home in Oakwood and ended up seizing over $6 million worth of drugs.

Teachers really do need to be paid more.

Jokes aside, the two face serious drugs and weapons charges, along with Ricardo Pascual Brito, 25, who local police are still trying to locate.

Authorities executed a search warrant at a home in the 4000 block of Crawford Oaks Drive in Oakwood, reportedly finding 61 kilograms of cocaine, 1 kilogram of heroin and two semi-automatic assault rifles.

The estimated value of the drugs totaled $6,209,280.

The Hall County School District is investigating Alvarez and the incident while they cooperate with police.

Superintendent Will Schofield said administration would be on “high alert” and that “Over my 17 years as a superintendent, I have had many employees arrested”

Dude, if teachers being arrested is the norm, it sounds like you need to re-address your vetting process.
