Oh Florida, you always have a way of surprising us.

You’d think that after hearing news stories about police in Canada using Nickelback’s music to punish drunk drivers, and news stories featuring a guy following Ted Cruz around with a sign that read “Ted Cruz Likes Nickelback” during the election, that the majority of people wouldn’t want to be associated with the Canadian act. Oh, and not to mention their music is terrible. But one bold man from Florida went where no man has gone before.

Lee Koenig was recently arrested and charged with two felony fraud counts after it was discovered that he was involved in a fraud scheme. And what was the scheme? Oh, well he just posed as the Nickelback drummer, Daniel Adair in order to swindle a company named Lewitt Audio out of $25,000 worth of high-end microphones.

Koenig was busted after a Nickelback business representative noticed that this order was “out of the ordinary,” And when Adair was contacted, he confirmed he did not make the order. It was Adair himself who investigated and he discovered a website for Koenig who has actually drummed for tribute bands for Aerosmith and Billy Idol. Adair also, after checking out Koenig’s photos, learned that the “suspect’s drum set was the same configuration as his.”

Adair went on to discover that this dude’s “publicist” named in the email order was just Koenig’s girlfriend. Now that’s just sad, dude. Eventually Koenig admitted what he was up to and was of course arrested and booked into jail, and then released after posting bail.

Oh, and if you’re curious, this is the real Nickelback drummer.
