Even though we helped you notice how many disturbing things actually occur in Home Alone (although if you’ve only seen it one time you may have not noticed), there is a little fact that no one seemed to have figured out yet: Just how much little Kevin McCallister’s dad, Peter spent, because everyone knows the dude was apparently loaded with cash somehow. Even though they never mention just what in the hell he does.
Peter not only takes his entire family to Paris for Christmas, but the man lives in a huge mansion. This dude is rich. But finally, thanks to Esquire, we get to know just how much cash he put down.

Let’s break it down.
15 plane tickets from Chicago to Paris (at Christmas). That includes 11 coach seats and four first-class ones.
Cost: Non-stop, round trip flight on American Airlines would cost a staggering $35, 320. And remember, this is before the airlines charged for everything like they do these days.
10 boxes of pizza
Cost: It cost them $122.50, which is $228 in today’s day and age. But who cares, pizza rocks.
Replacing all the stuff bratty Kevin destroyed
Cost: Things like the staircase, as well as Buzz’s room, would come in at about $1,500. Damn you, Kevin.
Total: $37,000
Esquire also states that the family spent $21,000 in the movie’s sequel, so the total would be $58,000.
No wonder Peter might have been in the mob.
