Palm Springs has a new letter to add to its proverbial alphabet of hotel choices, “V.” The old Curve hotel at 333 E Palm Canyon Drive has been transformed into V Palm Springs, a destination property with multiple pools and a hip outdoor bar to compete with nearby properties such as The Ace Hotel that lure a young, upscale crowd seeking a bit of style with their sun.
The look of the 140-room property is indeed a step up from the Curve. Contemporary design elements “reflect the traditional desert culture, which is re-envisioned through the use of new materials including cement, wood and fumed oak—all warmed with textures, tribal patterns and accents of colors,” a press released cooed shortly before the official opening in April.

But the first thing guests will notice when driving up is the brand new entrance, which looks like something out of a sci-fi film (muted, yet somehow futuristic). However, please don’t think the V is cold in any way – quite the opposite, actually. Once guests arrive at their room, warm interiors with earth tones and a monochromatic color palette soothe with flavors of the Southwest, while concrete floors give it all a decidedly modern twist.

Already, word is getting out that The V is a great alternative to other area hotels after a similar demographic (those coveted upmarket L.A. and O.C.-based young professionals sans families), with introductory prices aimed at getting people talking (rates range from anywhere from $144 to around $300 per night, depending on the night and what special events may be taking place in Palm Springs on any given weekend).
While The V Palm Springs is already an inspired new choice for anyone looking for a new spot to spend a few days escaping L.A., things are set to get even better at the property later this summer and into fall. A full-service restaurant (called Solstice) and a new wing of the hotel (with a second pool) are set to open soon, promising to really make this a true destination hotel.
In the meantime, guests can enjoy a drink poolside at Elixir bar, where cocktails such as the bar’s Desert Cherry Swizzle ($14) keep hipsters hydrated while taking in a nice view of the nearby San Jacinto mountains. So this summer do yourself a favor and get acquainted with the 22nd letter of the Roman alphabet, to feel like Caligula (or Nero), if only for the day.
