WhatsApp desktop has officially been released by the messaging service, introducing a brand new desktop app that allows WhatsApp users to browse their conversations on their Mac or Windows PC.
The new app, available for Mac OS X 10.9 or higher and Windows 8 or higher users, carries over all the conversations from WhatsApp on your smartphone, syncing with your account and mirroring the experience you’ll have on your smaller screen. WhatsApp also states that because the app runs natively on your desktop, users will have support for native desktop notifications, better keyboard shortcuts and more.
WhatsApp recently made a huge move towards protecting its users’ privacy, turning on encryption for the messages sent across its service. In a blog post announcing the change, WhatsApp stated: “hen you send a message [using WhatsApp], the only person who can read it is the person or group chat that you send that message to. No one can see inside that message. Not cybercriminals. Not hackers. Not oppressive regimes. Not even us. End-to-end encryption helps make communication via WhatsApp private – sort of like a face-to-face conversation.”
