Watch Of The Week | Piaget Altiplano Chronograph

Piaget is synonymous with luxury in the world of watches. Even their slick campaigns ooze luxury chic through the magical, seductive images of their beautiful models or celebrities rocking the latest in timepieces. Since 1957 the brand has prided itself on fabricating not only the most beautiful watches but the most painstakingly rendered luxury watches. So it’s no surprise that with each new glimpse at what is happening down at the House of Haute Hologérie, aka Piaget, we get more and more dazzling timepieces drizzling with diamonds and etched gold.

Fast-forward to the scintillating Piaget Altiplano Collection. Here stands a brilliant lookbook of watches that are so thin and precisely conjured that you won’t find a similar look on the market. The Altiplano Chronograph’s mechanical movement is 4.65 mm with a 8.24 mm gold case, allowing Piaget to claim them as the world’s thinnest hand-wound watches. It is simply understated in its classic rendering with a leather strap and the piéce de résistance: the hand-wound chronograph.

Here there are no smart devices to speak of or bluetooth synchronization. The smart device is ultimately the meticulously designed watch. The art of watchmaking may be a dying art when looking at the influx of smart watches that glow in the dark, but here Piaget has returned to form with a watch that guarantees precise time by virtue of its double clutch chronograph system. The latest incarnation is the 883P movement, an evolution from its predecessor the 880P. Both boast hand-wound mechanisms that are the thinnest and most accurate on the market. The 883P is their latest generation of ultra-thin timepieces, moving confidently forward into the next season of chic fashion.
