Tinder can’t match your music taste with that of potential love interests, so a new app called Mix’d has stepped in to hopefully stop you from dating anyone whose music collection you might find absolutely repulsive.
Mix’d, which is pretty much Tinder for the super-musically-conscious, was recently launched in the US, and applies Tinder’s swipe mechanism to the wonderfully complex world of music preferences.
According to its App Store profile, Mix’d matches users with people in their local area who have similar taste in music and who go to similar gigs.
After creating a profile and selecting your favourite artists, Mix’d shows you a list of results, and also looks at what upcoming gigs you’ve clicked ‘going’ to on Facebook.
If both you and your musical match swipe right, you’ll be paired up in a similar way to Tinder. Once you and your new musical BFF are matched up, you can then chat, swap music and even invite each other to shows.
As Thump reports, Mix’d uses Spotify-owned Echo Nest technology to match people together. The app’s creator, Noah Brunell, says personal experience partly inspired his creation.
“I go to a lot of shows. It’s a huge part of my life, and all my friends date girls or guys that are into the same scene,” he says.
“I thought, there’s something here. This might sound close-minded, but I don’t think I could date someone who wasn’t into the same type of music that I am into.
“If I can’t share those experiences with the person I’m spending all this time with, then it’s gonna be a real issue.”
Music-based dating services already include the likes of Techno Dating and EDM Date, but Mix’d is trying to bring music-suited relationships into the mainstream.
The app is currently only available in the US via the iTunes App Store, and it’s not yet known if it will one day make its way to Australia. In the meantime, catch some Mix’d screenshots below.
