Melbourne To Host Inaugural Sausage Dog Race, For A Good Cause

It’s a well known fact that mother nature doesn’t make ’em much cuter than the humble sausage dog.

I mean just look at how little its legs are compared to its body! JUST LOOK!

And now, in an event that’s bound to make the Melbourne Cup look like horseplay, a group of these adorable tail-waggers are about to go head to head in the ultimate battle for Sausage Dog Glory, courtesy of an honorary Teckelrennen this September.

For non-German language speakers, Teckelrennen translates to “Dachshund Race” (yep, they actually have a word for that), and it’s being hosted by Melbourne’s Hophaus Bier Bar, to kick off Oktoberfest a few days early (and in the gosh-darn-cutest way possible).

As Beat reports, there will also be a ‘Best Dressed Dachshund’ award for those who aren’t keen for their pups to run.

And, as if the promise of unprecedented cuteness isn’t enough to de-sour your kraut, the event is also for a good cause. The venue has partnered with My Dachshund Online for the race, which will raise money for Dachshund Rescue Australia.

The inaugural “race of the century” will take place on Saturday, September 19th at Podium Courtyard, Southgate.

Dachshunds, start your engines!
