If your answer to the age-old question, “what would you take with you if you had to be stranded on a desert island” includes a bottle of vino and a playlist of your favourite tunes, then congratulations, friend, because here’s one desert (or is that dessert?) island well worth getting marooned on. Three-sheets-to-the-wind marooned.
A little known Sydney Harbour outcrop called Clark Island will be transformed this November into the much more tastily-named ‘Wine Island’, for three glorious days of premium food and wine-related festivities.
Seafaring wino’s can set sail to the wondrous shiraz-drenched oasis off the Emerald City shoreline to partake in tastings, complimentary masterclasses, cooking demos and treasure hunts.
“Wine Island is the first of its kind for Clark Island and Sydney Harbour,” says festival founder and director Kristen Francis. “We’re in the unique position of taking over an island and transforming it into our own kind of paradise for three days.”
With a modest surface area of less than one hectare, salivating oenophiles won’t have far to stumble between the numerous wine and food huts, which promise showcases from some of the top local viticulturists and kitchen operations in the bizz (full lists here and here).
Wine Island will be operating from November 13th to 15th and tickets are available here.
Just make sure you dress for the occasion.
Bottoms up!
