Apple has overtaken Google by a considerable margin according to a new survey, with sales of the iPhone 6 and Apple Watch contributing to the company’s latest milestone.
The Brandz global brand power list states that Apple has reclaimed its place atop the throne and forced Google into second place, after increasing its estimated value by 67% to a whopping $247 billion. On the other hand Google’s increase in its value is comparatively paltry, with it achieving just a 9% gain to the tune of an estimated $173.6 billion.

The survey, conducted by Millward Brown, also shows that Facebook made the most movement as a brand in the past fiscal year, increasing its value by 99% and jumping from 21st to 12th place, with its acquisition of both WhatsApp and Instagram serving to raise its estimated value from $35.7bn to $71bn

- Microsoft, $115bn, up 28%
- IBM, $93.9bn, down 13%
- Visa, $91.9bn, up 16%
- AT&T, $89.4bn, up 15%
- Verizon, $86bn, up 36%
- Coca Cola, $83.8bn, up 4%
- McDonald’s, $81bn, down 5%
- Marlboro, $80bn, up 19%
Speaking of the results of the survey, Millward Browns’ Amanda Phillips said: “Though the Apple Watch has proved extremely popular it is the success of the iPhone 6 that has been the main driver of Apple’s brand value growth. The key to success for winning brands is to define themselves through innovation, differentiation and purpose, as in the case of Apple.”
The Apple Watch defied its critics upon its release, with it even being touted as the most profitable Apple product ever due to the relatively low level of expense required to manufacture it compared to its retail price. However, the Watch was but a drop in the bucket compared to the incredible popularity of the iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus, devices that are now widely regarded as the best smartphones ever and which saw many finally being lured away from their Android phones in order to hop aboard the good ship Apple. With the iPhone 6S reportedly set for release later this year, it looks likely that the company will continue their seemingly infinite run of good fortune far into the foreseeable future.
