Sony’s 147-Inch 4K Laser Projector Turns Your Living Room Into a Theater

When companies make the grand claim of how their TV will transform your home living room into a theater, it’s typically industry speak for “this is a very big television we are trying to sell to you.” However, Sony’s 4K Ultra Short Throw Projector is the kind of miraculous invention that would make me think twice about ever visiting the theater and spending a month’s rent on overpriced popcorn ever again. It’s a thing of sheer beauty, and if I knew someone who owned one, I would never leave their house.

The projector’s state-of-the-art 147-inch screen is emitted onto your wall using lasers that are discreetly tucked away within a stylish cabinet of sorts. If you think a 147″ screen is too much, the lasers can shift the image size all the way down to 66″, which is perfect for when you want to watch an episode of Breaking Bad without feeling like you’re in Walter White’s pocket.

The Ultra Short Throw Projector (given its name because it “throws” images onto your wall, according to Sony) was first released in the US, but is now making its way to Europe. Priced at $50,000 it’s certainly a luxurious purchase, though I’d wager that there aren’t many things in this world more worthy of your money, aside from perhaps food and shelter, though I’d quite happily sleep in a box if I could project Daredevil onto one of its sides in glorious 4K HD.

Of course, purchasing the projector would require you to carry out a number of tasks prior to having it in your possession – firstly, you’d need to find $50,000 (begin by checking down the sides of the cushions on your sofa). Secondly, you’d need a plain white wall. Thirdly, you’d need a considerably large group of friends that you can invite round to your home, in order for you to put on Inception and pummel them with your smugness as they’re blown away by your new home theater experience.

If you were worried that the cabinet would take up too much storage space, then you’ll be pleased to know that along with storing the laser projectors, it also hides within its shell two speakers and two actual cabinets that can be used to store your cable box, games consoles or anything else you have lying around in your house. Stylish and practical, just the way we like our hugely expensive tech.
