CommBank customers with an NFC-enabled Android device will soon be able to ‘Tap and Pay’ using only their phone’s built-in hardware.
Tech blogger Beau Giles has identified the feature in the new version of Android, which allows users to emulate a payment card using the phone’s software, and inbuilt Near-Feld Communication (NFC) technology.
CommBank has previously allowed NFC payments, but users were either required to attach an NFC sticker to the back of their phones, or use a compatible Samsung handset to utilise the feature. This app update will work with any NFC-enabled Android phone.
The app is being progressively rolled out on the Google Play store now. The Tap and Pay feature will be available anywhere MasterCard PayPass is accepted.
