No. 10 Manchester Street Hotel Hides London Luxury

There are massive luxury hotels in London – marked by sometimes classic Georgian entrances or ultra-modern, glass facades that give way to high sprawling lobbies worthy of museum status. They’re well known, easy to find and often become fixtures on the high streets.

You could walk right by the 10 Manchester Street and not realize you just passed one of central London’s more pleasant, comfortable, if understated hotels and evening destinations.

Located in the center of Westminster, the 10 is an easy walk from Baker Street, Regent’s Park, Marylebone Railway Station and a countless array of restaurants and bars. But, the hotel itself resides on a quiet, semi-residential street a couple turns and a few blocks from the flow of London pedestrian traffic. For those fortunate enough to book and fine the 10, that means they’ll sleep in peace and quiet, fully able to spring quickly out into the heart of Europe’s most diverse capital.

While the modest exterior settles in with the other short staircases marking the pricey flats surrounding the hotel, the 10 Manchester Street’s interior reaches for a modern look that matches its rooms and suites. My bunk (below) split itself between bedroom and lounge with a two-way television platform, with a full bathroom and shower set off to the side. Space was ample — especially when you consider London (and, indeed, most European hotel rooms) tend to run smaller.

The small, intimate Deci Restaurant branches off the lobby, doing double duty as an upscale Italian bistro and as the hotel’s breakfast spot by day. While breakfast is included with your stay, you might find the prices at Deci a little challenging for each night of your stay. Still, trying it’s ambitious menu once is a must.

My personal highlight of the hotel was its warm, comfortable smoking lounge and terrace, Cigars at No. 10. A true haven of lost civilization in a city and a world looking to make smoking and cigars a war crime, No. 10’s lounge sells a selection of quality, yet approachable smokes to be enjoyed in peace and quiet. It’s a prime space to relax and contemplate on your own or to enjoy the company of friends with taste.
