Aside from the warmth and joy of being with loved ones and giving them gifts, the holidays are also about two things: relaxing, and filling your face with all of the gluttonous food that you possibly can. It’s like a get out of jail (see: diet) card where you can pound whatever you feel like into your face. This includes both booze and food. Here are the food and drink recipes you need to try this holiday break.
Food and Drink Recipes to Try on Your Holiday Break
Bourbon Eggnog Cocktail
Mix an American classic Christmas drink with classic American Whiskey to create the Santa Claus of Christmas cocktails. Blend 4 large eggs for one minute, then add the following:
6 oz of sugar 1 tsp of nutmeg 1/8 tsp of allspice ½ tsp of cinnamon 2 oz of Grand Marnier 2 oz of Hennessy VSOP congac 4 oz of Bulleit Bourbon Once combined, add 12 oz of whole milk and 8 oz of heavy cream and blend for another minute.
Brie En Croute
This savory yet sweet cheese dish can really warm up the holidays. You’ll need some frozen puff pastry and an 8 oz wheel of brie. You can top it with whatever you want before wrapping the puff pastry around the brie wheel, and then baking in the oven for 30 minutes or until golden brown. We recommend pecans and cranberry, or fig and apple.
Brown Sugar Rosemary Mustard Glazed Ham
Make sure you’ve got a good quality ham, as the end product greatly depends on what you start with. Preheat your oven to 350 and stick your ham into a roasting pan with tinfoil wrapped around it enough to cover it completely. Douse the ham with pineapple juice. Bake for three hours. Meanwhile, in a bowl, mix 2 tablespoons of chopped rosemary, 2/3 cup of Dijon mustard, 1 tbsp of honey, and 1 cup of brown sugar. Take the ham out and generously cover the ham with mix. Bake for another 30 minutes. Eat. Food coma. Please leave a note for your family so they know you’re still alive.
Surprisingly, this recipe is a lot easier than it sounds.
Christmas Cookie Cocktail
This one is so easy to make, but difficult to put down… until you pass out because it’s incredibly strong despite the harmless sounding name. All you need is one ounce of peppermint schnapps, one ounce of Kahlua, one once of Bailey’s Irish Cream. Combine in a shaker, shake, and serve. Leave this Christmas Cookie out for Santa and you may still find him stuck up your chimney the next morning.
Holiday Trifle
This is the holy grail of gluttony and my absolute can’t miss dessert during the holidays. I usually have my wife whip up two of these. One for me, and one that she puts out that I still eat half of. If the rest of our guests are lucky, they can split that other half. Maybe.
Alternate layers of gooey, fudgy brownies, chocolate mousse, and whipped cream until you get to the top layer of whipped cream. Then top that with crushed toffee bars. Or get creative – you can use M&Ms, chocolate chips, or full candy bars for all I care. Just eat!
