Why are Apple Users Refusing to Switch to iOS 8?

Apple users are failing to adopt iOS 8 in their droves, with it being reported that 53% have yet to make the jump to the new operating system.

iOS 8 has been out for three weeks now but only 47% of users are currently running it, with 47% still using iOS 7 and 6% using an earlier iOS. When compared with the iOS 7 launch, which saw roughly 70% of users make the jump over a three-week period, Apple will likely not be best pleased that many are refusing to get on board with their highly-publicized new OS. But why is this the case?

The initial hurdle is its download size. Though the update files for iOS 8 come in at 1GB, devices need between 3GB and 5GB to actually install the operating system. This means that many iPhone and iPad users would be forced to delete many of their files in order to use it.

Another stumbling block is the worrying problems with iOS 8 which Apple has yet to address. Currently there are two bugs plaguing the operating system, one which prevents its users from connecting to other devices using Bluetooth, and another much more crippling issue that deletes iCloud files when attempting to perform a factory reset. We have previously covered a few workarounds to these problems, though they are by no means ideal solutions. These bugs surfaced after the iOS 8.0.1 update, which led to devices running the OS becoming plagued with problems. Fortunately Apple rectified a number of these, though the company has still yet to make iOS 8 as stable as it would like.

With no plans for an iOS 8.0.2 update any time soon, it is expected that Apple will continue to attempt to improve the current update, in the hope that more people will adopt the new OS sooner rather than later.
