They say that there’s no such thing as bad press, but the owners of Union Street Guest House in Hudson, NY, will likely stand to prove that saying incorrect, as their ridiculous policies have been doing the rounds across the Internet.
Spotted by the New York Post’s PageSix.com, the guest house features a gruesome policy intended to ensure that they receive no online negative reviews. The policy reads: “Please know that despite the fact that wedding couples love Hudson and our inn, your friends and families may not. If you have booked the inn for a wedding or other type of event . . . and given us a deposit of any kind . . . there will be a $500 fine that will be deducted from your deposit for every negative review . . . placed on any internet site by anyone in your party.”

This essentially means that those who have organized an event at the Union Street Guest House would be forced to tell those they had invited to refrain from posting a negative review, no matter whether or not their service had been poor, because each complaint would effectively cost the organizers $500.
Inevitably, the hotel is now receiving a huge influx of negative reviews on Yelp, with it plummeting down to a one-star rating which could effectively kill its business.
One choice one-star review reads: “Give me $500 and I’ll consider removing this awesome review. Otherwise… This awesome review stays. Forever. And ever. And ever. And ever.”
Another more questionable review reads: “This place is actually kind of decent. Derek, who was working the front desk, had pee stains on his trousers, but I’m only deducting one star because it wasn’t immediately clear whether the pee was his or someone else’s.”
The Union Street Guest House has yet to respond to the backlash, but rest assured that they probably really regret making this incredibly bad PR move right now.
