Footage has now surfaced of a reported hit and run incident that occurred during the annual Zombie Walk in San Diego. During the event, which happens at the same time as but is not affiliated with the San Diego Comic-Con, a 48-year-old deaf man hit a 64-year-old woman with his car.
As CraveOnline reported yesterday, David Stafford of the San Diego Police Department stated that the man had his children in the car. “The entire family in the car was deaf, and they were scared,” said Officer Stafford. However, there were conflicting reports about just what happened.
According to an account given by Officer Stafford to the media, the driver’s children were frightened and he attempted to drive forward after several minutes of waiting for the “zombies” to finish their run. The driver claimed the crowd then began attacking his car, which led him to strike the woman, who then fell under his car sustaining “serious but non-life-threatening arm injuries.”
However, some unidentified Zombie Walk participants claimed at the time that the crowd attacked the car only after the woman was hit and not before, conflicting with Officer Stafford’s account, which indicated that the man’s “windshield was shattered by the crowd.”
Police are said to be reviewing footage of the incident to determine what happened. In the video below, the man can be heard honking his horn before a group of people appear to surround his car. A man can be heard yelling what sounds like “Flip that car” before the car begins to move forward.
