Dendy To Launch Online Streaming Service

Cinema company Dendy have announced they will launch a new online streaming service Dendy Direct. The service will rival the likes of Google Play, iTunes and US streaming giant Netflix.

Mumbrella reports, Dendy Direct will be unveiled at the end of this month and will take more of a “curatorial” approach to its video and film content. Similar to iTunes, it will operate as a “pay per play” service.

Kate Stapleton, Dendy Direct head of digital, told Mumbrella the pricing “would be consistent with the industry”. “We have deals in place with most of the major distributors as well as the indies.”

No announcement has yet been made as to the size of the Dendy Direct library or what the subscription cost will be. “Our customer is a discerning, film loving customer, we fill a unique spot in the market,” continued Stapleton.

“We intend to cater to the things our customers love. We have a sticky customer base who are very loyal to us and it’s great to be able to extend that relationship into the home.”

The announcement follows the news that US streaming service Netflix is set to launch in Australia in 2015, despite the fact that up to 200,000 Australian consumers are already Netflix subscribers who access the content with the help of a VPN that circumvents geo-blocking settings.
