Someone Made A Yo Parody App, Yo Hodor

Yo, the simple and futile messaging app that lets you send a “Yo” to your contacts and nothing else now has a Westeros-based rival, Yo, Hodor. Why ‘Yo’ when you can ‘Hodor’?

Much like its predecessor, Yo, Hodor is a single-word app allowing users to virtually shout “HODOR!” to your friends (instead of Yo), perfect for those trying to shake off those niggling “Game of Thrones” withdrawals.

The timing of the new app is perfect with the novelty factor of the original Yo already fading. For the uninitiated, or at least those who tend towards polysyllabic communications, Yo launched on April 1st and started gathering steam in recent weeks. It was reportedly created in just eight hours and has since received US$1 million from investors.

Conversely, according to Tech Crunch, Yo, Hordor was built in 4 hours from start to finish by Tyler Hedrick, a former Facebook intern now working as an iOS developer. He reportedly teased his idea for Yo, Hodor before its recent App Store release, joking on Twitter that “Hodoring is so much cooler than Yoing someone.”

The app’s namesake, Hodor, is a recurring character on “Game of Thrones” who doesn’t really communicate except for shouting his own name, Hodor. “Yo, Hodor is a fun app for you to Hodor your friends,” reads the app’s description. “Simply add your friend’s username and tap it to send them a Hodor. Make sure you have your sound on for the best experience.”

Yo Hodor is a free download on iTunes.
