While the Australian government prepares to implement strict laws to crackdown on the country’s rampant piracy habit, US comedian Louis CK has lifted the lid on our collective national shame, after he discovered on a recent Australian tour that most of the country were ripping him off.
Appearing on the Opie and Anthony show on US satellite radio network Sirius XM, Louie recalled how he fielded many compliments about his TV show Louie from Australian fans, despite the fact that the show didn’t air here yet. “The whole country pirates there,” he explained.
“Here [the US] weirdos pirate things, ” he continued. “But in Australia, mums and dads pirate video, because we’re not letting them buy it. We’re keeping it from them.” Famously, Louis CK raked in an impressive $1 million in just 12 days with his $5 experiment, where he offered videos of his latest performances on his website for just $5.
“Everybody in the world is like, ‘take my fucking credit card and just let me have the thing and I’ll pay. But if you’re going to be a pain in the ass, then fuck you! I can steal all of it!’ So the whole country of Australia rips TV.”.
