Torrentz.eu, the Largest Torrent Site in the World, Has Been Banned

Torrentz.eu, the largest torrent site in the world, has been forced offline by the City of London police.

While the torrent site was previously banned in the UK by ISPs, this move now means that the site is inaccessible worldwide. The ban was made by the Police Intellectual Property Crime Unit (PIPCU), as UK police continue their (unwinnable) war against torrent domains in order to “topple sites that provide or link to pirated content”.

The move will serve as little more than a roadblock for Torrentz, who will likely be able to lift its suspension due to the City of London police carrying out the suspension without a court order. If the suspension isn’t lifted, though, then Torrentz can simply be transferred to a new registrar.

According to TorrentFreak, Canada-based registrar easyDNS previously spoke out against officials demanding websites be taken offline, and will not be complying with the order. EasyDNS’ CEO Mark Jeftovic said: “Correct me if I’m wrong, but I always thought it was something that gets decided in a court of law, as opposed to ‘some guy on the internet’ sending emails. While that’s plenty reason enough for some registrars to take down domain names, it doesn’t fly here,”
