Apple is looking to improve the sub-par hardware of Beats headphones in the future, reports suggest.
Many scratched their heads when it was revealed that Apple had acquired Beats for $3.2 billion, but if a Bloomberg report is to be believed, Apple purchased the headphone manufacturer in order to get a hold of its streaming music service, and to improve the mediocre quality of its high-end hardware in the future.
Bloomberg states that Apple’s interest in the company doesn’t lie in the headphones, but rather the Beats Music platform’s huge success in converting its free trial members to paid subscriptions. Apple wants to make waves in the streaming business considering the huge amount of growth we’ve seen in that department in recent years, and Beats Music is seemingly how they hope to achieve this.
Interestingly, Bloomberg notes that Apple will not be linking its name to Beats, instead choosing to keep them operating as a separate entity despite being owned by Apple. Perhaps Apple will only want to directly affiliate itself with Beats once the hardware matches the large price tag of the headphones, but we’ll have to wait and see.
