The upcoming Winter Storm Demi is expected to bring multiple inches of snow to the northeastern United States through to Sunday, January 19. This is in addition to another projected major winter storm that early models say could form next week as early as Monday night. Winter Storm Demi is a low-pressure system that is forecast to move north along the East Coast and cause a fair amount of snowfall in New England. The region is projected to see some flurries from a separate storm on Saturday as well. Here’s how much snow is likely to drop due to Winter Storm Demi.
What is the weather forecast for Winter Storm Demi?
The latest forecast for Winter Storm Demi is that it will bring snow as early as Sunday morning to Virginia, Pennsylvania, Maryland, and New Jersey before moving later in the day across states in New England.
This is according to a Friday report by The Weather Channel that comes with a map of forecasted snowfall throughout the region. Cities like Charleston, Washington D.C., Rochester, Burlington, and New York City are projected to receive about 1 to 3 inches of snow by Monday. Meanwhile, Philadelphia and Boston could receive more, between 3 and 5 inches of snow. The exact snowfall totals will depend on how close Winter Storm Demi will hug the eastern coastline.
It should be noted that a smaller unnamed winter storm is forecast to hit the Ohio Valley and the northeastern US late Friday and into Saturday. As explained by weather expert Ryan Hall on Friday, a pocket of cold air developing near Texas will likely bring rain near St. Louis, Missouri on Friday night and move quickly east. It will bring some rain and snow-effect snow in Illinois, Michigan, Ohio, New York, and Pennsylvania.
And then on Monday, another winter storm is expected to impact states in the South as an artic cold front hits the majority of the US. This system, if it becomes as strong as anticipated, could be named Winter Storm Enzo by The Weather Channel.
