Yet another winter storm is expected to impact the United States by next week in January. After Winter Storm Cora passed, early models on Monday predicted that the majority of the US would be hit with a severe arctic blast that will bring very low temperatures, centered around the Ohio Valley. These models, updated on Thursday, January 16, show that this weather pattern will likely be bringing one major winter storm over the next week. Here’s when the next winter storm is forecast to come.
When is the next winter storm after Cora?
The next major winter storm is expected to form around Monday night, January 20, and bring several inches of snow throughout the southern states from Texas to North Carolina until Wednesday, January 22, according to several weather experts.
According to an analysis by expert Ryan Hall on Thursday, an ensemble of models show snow developing over Texas near Houston and Dallas between Monday and Tuesday. By Wednesday, the system is projected to create snow and sleet in states around the Gulf Coast, including Texas, Louisiana, Alabama, Mississippi, Georgia, and South Carolina. The dividing line between where the snow and the rain will fall is uncertain, but it looks like Florida will likely experience only rain.
The severity of this system, which could be called Winter Storm Demi by The Weather Channel, is not expected to be as high as Winter Storm Cora. As for snow totals for the winter storm on Monday, it’s still too early to determine that, but European models show around 3 inches of snow across the states in the South by Thursday, January 23.
Max Schuster, also known as Max Velocity on YouTube, said on Thursday that he doesn’t anticipate this storm to have as much snowfall, though it may still cause dangerous conditions in the region.
He also points out that a lighter, fast-moving storm will bring some flurries in New England from Friday to Monday. It doesn’t look strong enough, though, to be a major winter storm.
