Here’s Why Girl Scout Cookies S’Mores & Toast-Yay Are Being Discontinued After 2025 Season

Several Girl Scout Cookies will be discontinued once the 2025 season is over, marking the end for S’mores and Toast-Yay. The Girl Scouts of the USA (GSUSA) confirmed as much in a statement on Tuesday, January 7, that “at the close of the 2025 cookie season, two beloved cookie flavors, Girl Scout S’mores and Toast-Yay!, will be retired.” The Girl Scout Cookie season generally begins in January and ends some time in April. This announcement as the cookie season begins, so that fans of these two soon-to-be-retired cookies can stock up on them before they’re gone forever. Here’s why S’mores and Toast-Yay will be gone by 2026.

Why are S’mores and Toast-Yay! being discontinued in 2026?

While a representative of GSUSA did not give a reason for why S’mores and Toast-Yay were being discontinued, per Fox 4, several polls show that both of these cookie flavors are not that popular.

A 2023 poll by Patch that had over 2,800 responses showed the only 1.4 percent of participants selected S’mores as their favorite cookie. Toast-Yay was near the bottom of the barrel at 0.4 percent (or 12 people). This is compared to yearly favorites like Thin Mints (42%), Samoas or Caramel deLites (23%), and Peanut Butter Patties or Tagalongs (15%). That said, more respondents chose S’mores over Raspberry Rally (0.6%), Toffee-tastic (1.2%), Lemon-Ups (0.9%), and Caramel Chocolate Chip (0.5%).

Similarly, a 2020 poll by YouGov with over 7,000 responses had S’mores in seventh place at 3%. At the time, Toast-Yay cookies had not been introduced yet as they debuted in 2021.

On the official FAQ page for the Girl Scouts, both S’mores and Toast-Yay are not among the top five best-selling cookies. Similar to the Patch poll, these are Thin Mints, Samoas, Tagalongs, Adventurefuls, and Peanut Butter Sandwiches (or Do-si-dos).

The GSUSA representative noted that the organization regularly reevaluates its cookie lineup and that “discontinuing Toast-Yay! and Girl Scout S’mores may lead to something new and delicious.”
