Video Shows Raging Malibu Fire Turning Sky Into Devilish Red

Photos and videos of the Malibu fire showed the sky color dramatically turning into a devilish red due to the growing flames. The wildfire, which officials have now dubbed the Franklin Fire, sparked near Pepperdine University on Monday night in a 10-acre radius. The Santa Ana winds then fueled the flames to burn over thousands of acres of land on the Los Angeles County coast. NBC Los Angeles‘ updated report shows that the fire has now burned more than 4,000 acres, with only seven percent containment. Over 1,500 firefighters continue to tirelessly to put out the fire.

Malibu fire footage shows what it did to the sky

Videos of the Malibu fire show that the raging flames turned the sky into a scary red color with smoke-filled neighborhoods. Since starting on Monday night, the Franklin fire has caused significant destruction to properties and structures and has affected thousands of people. Officials have ordered mandatory evacuations in the community, with these orders as well as school and road closures still in effect.

Pepperdine University students, who are sheltered inside the campus, have shared footage and photos of the Malibu Fire ravaging surrounding areas. According to CBS News, shortly after the fire started on Monday, the institution instructed its students to stay put, announcing a shelter-in-place order. They took shelter inside two buildings at the center of the premises as the flames caused a power outage. The officials only lifted the order on Wednesday morning, noting that the fire was not “threatening the campus” anymore.

Several student-captured videos have since surfaced on social media, showing the Malibu fire burning in the surrounding areas of Pepperdine University. Some clips showed students watching the devastating flames from inside one of the buildings as the sky filled with orange and red hues as well as smoke. Many other educational institutions, including Santa Monica College, have announced campus closures until Friday.

Fire officials have disclosed that it may take them “a number of days” to contain the Franklin fire, reported NBC Los Angeles. In addition, they revealed that they have yet to determine what exactly caused the fire near the Malibu Canyon tunnel area.
